phpBB2

phpBB2 is a powerful forum script written in the PHP scripting language. It utilizes a MySQL database to store all of its information. It has quickly gathered a large following and there are numerous support boards and modifications available. If you are an experienced web developer, I recommend downloading the phpBB2 source and installing it yourself. This will allow you the better ability to customize the features that are available and apply any modifications. You can download the source, contact phpBB support, or read through the phpBB support forums at their website.

The phpBB2 script available in your Control Panel will automatically install the forum script onto your site. However, because of this, the installation script assumes a lot of default values. You may be better served by installing the script by hand, on your own. You may also find it difficult to get support from the phpBB support team if you use this method. At any rate, this option is available to our users.

To install the phpBB2 forum script using the automatic install procedure, click on the phpBB2 link. Enter the path that you want to install the script to, where it says Install board at this url:.

Note: The complete path to this URL must exist. Another words, the directory above where you are going to install the script must exist. If you want the form to show as being installed at:
domain.com/somedirectory/forum
You must insure that the directory:
/home/username/public_html/somedirectory
exists. Generally, you will install the forum script in your public_html directory and this is not an issue.

After you click Install the install script will execute, installing the forum into the stated directory. When the install script is finished you should see a page similar to:

Now you can use the link on that page or go to the desired URL that you installed the script at. You should see the forum as it is setup:

You can now log into the admin portion of the phpBB forum. The username and password should be:
Username: admin
Passowrd: Your Control Panel password.

Another option available to users, is the ability to convert or upgrade an XMB forum to phpBB2. We have not had any luck with this script and do not recommend it. Doing so may result in the loss of forum entries and files.
