FTP Manager

Here you will notice four options to choose from:

FTP Accounts

Here you will be able to create additional FTP accounts, if your plan comes with any. The most common reason for creating an additional FTP user, is to allow someone access to a subdomain. If you have your domain, and you want a friend or family member to be able to create their own seperate website, a subdomain is a common method for accomplishing that. Instead of having you upload all of their files, you can create an FTP user to access that part of your site. Giving this information to your friend or family member will allow them to upload their own files and make changes to their subdomain as needed.

A second FTP user can also be useful if you have someone or other persons designing your site. Since the FTP username and password will be seperate from your main account username and password, they would not be able to access your Control Panel and other sensitive areas. When you click on the FTP:// Accounts link you should see a screen similiar to the one below:

To add an account, click the Add Account link. This will take you to a page similiar to:

Enter the desired information for a Login name and a Password. Notice that the Directory: textbox will change when you enter a Login name. By default the Login and the Directory are the same value. This is because commonly the FTP users are used to access part of your public_html directory or to access a sub domain. You can probably leave this to its default setting. If you are creating a user to design your site and want him to have access to all of your public_html directory, then you should set this to / .

After you have created a user, you can go back to the FTP Accounts page and the new user should be listed.

A couple of things to note is that you must log in using the form: username@domain.com. For example the user that I created above was scott. In order for me to log in as this user, I would need to use a Login username of scott@amsnac2.com. Also note, that when you log into the FTP as this user, your path will be different than from your main account. When you login via your main username and password (the one to access your Control Panel), you will be brought to /home/username. With a log in from an FTP user you created, you will be logged in to /home/username/public_html/ftp_user_path, where ftp_user_path is the path you entered when creating the user.

To change the path that a username goes to, you will need to delete the FTP user ane recreate it. You can change the password to an FTP user, by using the Change Password link beside the FTP user.

Anonymous FTP Controls

Here you can enable Anonymous FTP access to your site.

Warning: Anonymous FTP is not required in maintaining your site, because of this I don't recommend enabling this feature, unless you know what you are doing and only leaving it enabled for a short time. It is possible that someone may discover that you have anonymous FTP enabled on your account and upload illegal or malicious software. If this type of software is found on your account, it is grounds for immediate terminiation.

Clicking this link will give you two options:

Allow anonymous access -- This will enable anonymous FTP access to your site. That is anyone that logs into your account aonymously will see any files in your /home/username/public_ftp directory. Users will be able to download these files, but if only this option is checked, users will not be able to upload. One thing to note, you will need to login anonymous with a username of anonymous@domain.com where domain.com is your domain name. The password would be anything, but commonly your e-mail address. Most accounts do not come with an IP, unless specifically stated. If you are having trouble accessing your anonymous FTP, try using the form anonymous@domain.com and if you are still having trouble, please contact us.

Allow anonymous upload -- This option will enable users to upload into the /incoming directory, located at /home/username/public_ftp/incoming . Note that when a user uploads into this directory, regular anonymous users will not be able to view its contents. This is for security reasons.

Anonymous FTP Message

This is the message you want anonymous FTP users to see when they log into your domain anonymously. This is useful for giving a time frame of when you will have the anynonymous FTP portion of your site available for users.

FTP Session Control

This enables you to view a list of connection to your site. You cannot tell what username is logged in, but you can determine the number of connections and disconnect any user you wish.

Clicking on the Disconnect button will disconnect the user that it is beside.
